Immersive Sound Design
We seem to have entered an age where more people are talking and fewer people are taking the time to stop and listen. There seems to be more noise and chatter everywhere we turn, to the point that it can become difficult to pick out nuance, subtlety or quality.
The daily life of an audio professional involves intensive concentration and acute listening. It involves dialing in minute EQ or compression adjustments in a particular frequency and recognizing the whole of a musical piece, dialogue or sound effect.
I believe that developing any of the senses helps to develop all of the senses. I’ve learned to listen just as I learned about food, wine, mastering a sense of touch, feel and smell. All improve a producer’s sense of perception.
The most important, among all of the things I’ve learned over the years, is to trust my ears.
The process of creating music, sound effects and dialogue involves many different kinds of listening, from recognizing the tonal changes in moving a microphone even a few inches, during the recording process, to balancing clashing frequencies in a complex mix and bringing out the dialogue.
It’s all about presentation and how the dialogue, music and sound effects are to be perceived by the listener.
Enhancing the guest experience of any project is my passion and I deliver that passion from concept to final master.
